Regular Facials Create and Maintain a Healthy and Vital Skin
The skin is the largest organ of the body. It is alive and has many functions. One of the ones that we care about is the aesthetic look of it.
As our skin ages, we often feel disappointment with the way it looks. And yet there is no real need to do so. Between the ages of 30 and 55 we can be very powerful in creating changes in the physiology of the skin. After 55, there are still many changes that can be achieved at cellular level.
Although good skin care does not prevent ageing, it does slow down the development of the signs that we associate with age and creates good functioning in all the parts of the skin. The levels of moisture and lipids improve; the rate of renewal increases and the surface is kept in clear and brighter condition. This creates such a vital and healthy look that you no longer feel unhappy with your appearance. Instead you can see the improvements for yourself and this is reinforced by the comments that your friends and family make. Everyone notices.
When you have a facial you can expect to see an immediate improvement in your skin, but that diminishes and your skin is soon back to normal. This is because one facial cannot change the physiology of the skin. The way your skin is functioning, at the time you first have a facial, is the result of your life’s experience to date. This is called the extrinsic conditions. In order to change it, you have to change the way you are treating your skin and keep up those changes.
This is where a good therapist is so invaluable. She will show you how to take good care of your skin, she will teach you what you need to be doing and using, and tell you why. She will enter into a journey with you, setting both long term and short term goals, and working alongside you to help you achieve them.
What happens during a facial?
The major part of the therapist’s work will be to bring all the systems of your body up to good functioning. She will stimulate your arterial circulation with carefully chosen massage movements, so that it will supply your skin with the nutrients and oxygen that it needs for health. She will stimulate lymph flow in order to remove all viruses, bacteria and pathogens as well as any localised oedemas – e.g. puffy eyes. And, if she is trained in Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD - Vodder) she can even improve the functioning of this system. She will improve the condition of the loose connective tissue of the upper Dermis so that the exchanges, across the space between the capillaries and the cells, are performed efficiently. And she will keep the surface of your skin in a healthy state with efficient exfoliation techniques ever mindful of the need to preserve the integrity of the epidermis.
You will see an immediate difference. By the fourth regular treatment (set up in the rhythm of one every 4 to weeks) you will see the colour of your skin change for a healthier tone. This is so striking that if you wear make up you will often need to change the colour of your foundation. However, many clients find that after about 6 months to a year of regular skin care, they no longer feel the need for foundation at all.
The very best results
When the partnership between the client and the therapist is working at its best:
The therapist will use all her knowledge, her passion and her ability to repair the skin, bring it to good working order and then to keep it that way.
The client takes her part of the process responsibly, will diligently do her routine at home and take seriously her role in prevention of further damage by avoiding exposure to UVR and cutting back on the level of sugar in her diet. (See a future Library article explaining AGE’s). And she will provide her body with good supplies of water and Essential Fatty Acids in order to facilitate optimum levels of cellular functioning.
